Corey Patterson's demotion
So he finally got sent to the minors. Why? Because he's so easy to strike out with high fastballs and pitches in the dirt. That's why. Not working the count enough, not wakling enough. That's why. So what's he going to work on down there?

"It's just one thing--making my swing a little shorter," he said. "It got out of whack. It was pretty long. That's really the only thing."

That's nice Corey, good to hear that you're listening. He got booed a lot in Wrigley, so does anyone else who's sucking big time. What does Corey think about it?

I know people were pulling for me from A-to-Z. It wasn't like it was a lack of hustle or a lack of effort. If someone is not hustling or running balls out, that's the only time a player should be booed.

I've heard this before, many times, from players that seek to defend themselves from the boo-birds. I've heard it a lot lately coming from the Cubs, stemming from the criticism they've received this season.

"It's not from lack of trying," they say.

But it is

They aren't trying to do what they need to win. Patterson wasn't trying to take more pitches and bunt more. He wasn't trying to stay off those high fastballs. The whole lineup wasn't trying to draw more walks. Baker wasn't trying to hit-and-run more. Players think that if they are really trying as hard as they can (which some call pressing), putting pressure on themselves and being frustrated when it doesn't work, that that's OK because they are trying their hardest.

Bullshit.
