WSJ
I stole one of my neighbor's Wall Street Journal yesterday to see what all the fuss was about. The very first one I've ever read. My review? Unimpressed. Most of the stories seemed like filler to me, and I understand why so many undergrads back at BC simply let the orange bags pile up on the street - the promise of great wealth they expected was nowhere to be found. After all, it's just another newspaper.

Bush
So I caughtBush on TV as I was leaving the gym today, he was speaking for something relating to a "Bill Clinton Library" somewhere. Clinton was there, Bush was speaking. All I heard was Bush praising Clinton's "brilliance and power of persuasion," I chuckled and walked away - what a weird world we have made for ourselves.

Guatemala in the next round of qualifying
Here is a nice article on Guatemala's standing in the qualifying for Germany 2006 six after last night's loss to Canada (0:1). It has a brief interview with Ramon Maradiaga, the Guatemalan coach.

Beltran
This is all getting out of control. Is he the best free agent available this offseason? yes. Is he this year's Arod? Only in the sense that he is the best compared to the other free agents. But 10 years for a guy that hit .267 38 home runs, and 104 RBI? I don't think so. Sure he dazzled everyone in the postseason and is a spectacular defender and is probably coming into his prime. But he isn't a shortstop, hasn't put up NEARLY the numbers AROD did before his contract, and he played for the Royals - no pressure there.

I thought ARod's contract was ridiculous, but if this guy gets anything more that 15million per year than this league is really starting to really, no seriously, disappoing me.

The execution
The video of that guy getting shot up as he was dying in Fallujah is taking on an interesting twist. It seems some military commanders are saying that the soldier's action could be qualified as "self defense." Can you imagine? Seems like we better get the attorneys for those cops that beat up Rodney King.

Oh and this is pretty good too:

"When I saw the video, I wished I had a stronger gun and (could) spray that soldier with 100 bullets in his head," said 39-year-old Issam Mohammed, who sells sodas.

who sells sodas!

The Fog of War
Very interesting perspective on the war, on many things really.

Will we ever see Rumsfeld in a movie like this twenty years from now? Doubt it...but never say never.

Which is more annoying? Destiny's Child promoting McDonalds or those people on the Bowflex infomercials? I don't know, it's a tough one.

Student Center
The people in the student center here at DePaul make me think that most of them don't have computers in their rooms. Which is strange to me. In my experience everyone has one (at least at BC). Not only that, but everyone NEEDS one. But you see these people sitting at these greasy public terminals (reserved for DePaul people) for hours. Doing papers and research. How gross. There is a computer lab a block away from it at the library. It's small, but it's nice and comfortable. It's quiet too. It makes me sick because all I want to do is check my email real quick or pass on my musings on this blog - and there are all these people writing papers and shit in the cafeteria. How awful. Imagine (for those BC-ers) people writing papers on those terminals they had on Upper in the coffee shop up there. Right, it's gross.

Cosmo
Ok, I really can't believe that Cosmopolitan magazine is still around. How many issues can you print of saying the same thing over and over? I mean really, how can you waste your money on something that just re-words phrases and prints them out again? Instead of "what your man wants" you get "good deeds your man wants." Come on. How many different wordings of "sex tricks that will drive him wild" can you have? To all readers of Cosmo magazine, how do you resolve something like this? Tell me. Please, I want to know. It's not that I'm calling you stupid (although I would like to), but I'm calling you what I call smokers: illogical. I just don't get it.

Listen, you want to know what men want? Here it is, for free:
- Girls that look hot, much like the cover of the magazine.
- Girls that aren't slutty, except with us.
- We don't want a girl that expects us to read her mind.
- We want you to take the initiative sometimes.
- We want you to be confident in how you act and look, but not to be bitchy about it.
- We want you to be loyal but not psycho.
- We want you to be rational.

Are you willing to submit to all these things? I hope not, because we don't want you to be too perfect. How boring to have the perfect girl...
