Da Bulls
I may be getting myself into something that noxious to my health, but what the hell, I'm a Cub fan after all.

Last night I watched the Bulls' season opener and it was an eery parallel to how my "relationship" started with the Cubs. What possible similarities could there be?

- On a superficial note, Wayne Larravee was calling the game, and I'm pretty sure he was on with Stoney during some of that post-Carey time, although it's true that I did get hooked on Carey-Stone. Larravee was always kind of a tool since Caray was so cool.

- THe Bulls played lame game in the first half, getting booed and falling behind by more than 20 points. Did I change the channel? No. I kept watching, and lo and behold they turned it around and turned it into a thrilling double overtime game. It was a fantastic game.

- THey lost.

- THey should've won.

- THe loss was ameliorated by the fact that it was a great game.

- I'm watching tonight's game and am looking into tickets. I'm also reading the local coverage in the papers.

All this equals....uh oh....

Oh and Troy Bell got waived on Nov 1st. Troy Bell, the GOD of BC Basketball is now out of a job. Damn.
THen I looked up his weight: 6'1 180 pounds. Better bulk up kid.

My favorite player on the Bulls after one game: Andres Nocioni out of Argentina. Lots of emotion and he's a scrapper. He lost the game when he missed a free throw but still, he came off the bench and played awesome: 17 points 14 rebounds.
There are a lot of players to like on the team, Hinrich is the star, he scored over 30 points and was incredible. Then you have Luol Deng - cool name off the bench, he makes me nervous though when he has the ball.

I never thought I'd be rooting for Duhon...

Eminem
has this new song called Rain Man where he hits Christopher Reeve really hard. He also rails on him on another track.

I bet it'll be a big deal when the CD comes out, in the mainstream press I mean. Look out for the Yahoo News brief.

Media
And you thought the media wasn't biased? Or that it wasn't just plain dumb?

This was on Yahoo's front page under the "News" tab:

Laura Bush to get new puppy

EXTRA EXTRA
The polls are closed and the results are definitive: 51% of Americans are morons.

The moron issue, as it's being called, was a surprise to most people, but it has ended up as the deciding factor. The good news was that a record amount of voters turned out. The bad news is that most of them are idiots, as the results clearly show.

It was clear the way the results would end up when Republican Ken Blackwell, the Ohio secretary of state came on TV at 11:47pm last night to say that "everything is OK. There is nothing to worry about." Ohio-ans concerns of being bombed however, were not discussed.

In what also surprised many analysts, the moron votes ended up coming from the exact same places as in 2000, which boggled experts.

"How the fuck could people vote the same way? This is crazy," said Carlos Portocarrero.

After calming down a bit, Portocarrero continued, "Well, this is democracy at work, to be honest. Morons voted for a moron, and since the majority of people in this country are morons, they will be duly represented. God save the world."

It's not over
you thought the Yankees may finally come to their senses? NOT

Voting
Weird feeling. I've only voted in Guatemala before this so maybe that has to do with it. But here, after so big a deal has been made about GO VOTE GO VOTE, then the day comes and it's not really that big a deal. First of all, there is no holiday, everyone has to vote AND work. Why? Why complain so much that people go and vote and them make them go to work? Why not just facilitate it for them? It's very strange. Also, nothing was on TV until now (5pm). Which is very weird. A little on the scheduled news but that's it. In Guatemala the elections are a holiday (or a sunday, I don't remember), the idea is that there is no work on that day. Also, from 6am on the channels are all focused on the elections and all the stuff going on.

It has nothing to do with me being an occasional pessimist, but I have a feeling that Bush is going to win.

Why I hate Mondays
That that "that" that that "that sentence" contains should be a "which" shows that that "that rule" isn't all that complicated.

Control Room and Incident at Loch Ness
This movie was pretty good, and it would be great if your typical American would see it. It's about Al-Jazeera, the Arabic news channel based out of Qatar. It shows how they go about showing news for their arabic audiences (and the world). The US hates the channel because it will openly criticize US policy (they had guests on that claimed 9/11 happened due to US foreign policy - Powell and Rice demanded those guests be censored) to millions of people in that area. I imagine it's one of the main reasons the US established their own channel to broadcast out there, though I don't know what's come of it. One of the great parts of this documentary is the US military press officer, a Lt Rushing. At first he comes off as being a typical pro-American-at-all-costs military guy. But as the movie goes one we see that he really understands both sides and how difficult it is to find a universal truth. It's great to see a military guy saying what he says about the US media, and how it's all about ratings and money, channels play to their audience and that's why Fox News is so popular, because that's what people want: american patriotism. The part I found infortunate about his story is that he truly believes in what his superiors have told him. He thinks the administration is out there to help people and improve the world, leaving him in the impossible situation of defending the policy of Bush & Co. Which is too bad, because this guy has his heart in the right place.

The Incident at Loch Ness: Ever heard of director Werner Herzog? I hadn't until I saw this movie. It really has nothing to do with the monster at Loch Ness, despite the fact that it takes place on the lake and they seem to "bump" into it. This is about what it real and what is not, and why that distinction should matter. This guy Herzon though is hilarious, with his unassuming accent and demeanor. It's a good time, and don't be bummed out when you realize what's going on, it's part of the movie.
